Description: "Super Swamp Ghost" is a selection of Sarracenia leucophylla, or white top pitcher plant. It almost exclusively produces leaves in late summer. Spring pitchers are predominantly green and red, slender and short. The fifth photo is of a spring pitcher and flower without petals. Late summer leaves emerge bright-white, fading to white with splotches of hot pink.
It has the biggest appetite of any pitcher plant in our nursery. Place cotton swabs in the leaves if you don't want your plant crammed with bugs! Summer leaves grow to 28" tall. Carefully fill the thin spring leaves with max sea fertilizer for a larger summer show.
Most notably, "Super Swamp Ghost" is easily propagated by rhizome cutting. Its dormant buds readily enlarge when a piece of rhizome is removed from the dominant growth point.
Pitcher Plant Care: Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss and perlite in a very large planter and keep it wet. In a bog garden, use a mixture of peat moss and sand. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
