Description: This hybrid pitcher plant is a cross between two of the largest, most colorful pitcher plants; S. alata var. nigrapurpurea and flava var. rubricorpora. It is a stunning plant that is a great choice for the gardener looking for large red pitcher plants. The top notch color and size make up for the fact that it doesn't make many leaves. It emerges in spring infused with yellow and matures to solid burgundy.
Notably, S. alata "black" x flava "red" is a sibling to lovely Phil Falisi hybrid ‘Black Widow’.
Pitcher Plant Care: Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss and perlite in a very large planter or bog garden and keep it wet. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
