Description: S. ‘Royal Ruby’ is a wild moorei that was found and introduced into cultivation in the early 90's. The leaves on this hybrid are a vibrant red that grow to 32 inches tall, occasionally larger. It has both S. leucophylla and S. flava in its parentage and produces large leaves in the spring and fall. S. ‘Royal Ruby’ is a striking plant in color and shape, for this reason it has been used to create many cultivars. Three Phil Falisi hybrids have 'Royal Ruby' as the parent: ‘Reptilian Rose’ , ‘Alucard’ and ‘Tower of Terror’.
Pitcher Plant Care: Plant pitcher plants in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss and perlite in a very large planter and keep it wet. S. 'Royal Ruby' will reach its full potential only when grown in a planter with adequate room. For plants reaching maturity, try a 5 gallon or larger container. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
