Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa is the southern variety of the purple pitcher plant. It is cold hardy to zero degrees when planted in the ground. Its ground- hugging traps are fat with frilly hoods and rich color. Unlike other species, these plants allow rain water to collect in their tubby leaves.
Growing purpurea from seed is extremely rewarding because they grow very fast. The seedlings start out looking like other pitcher plant seedlings but then develop the iconic tubby leaf shape in no time at all.
Each packet contains approximately 25 seeds.
