Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa is the southern variety of the purple pitcher plant. It is cold hardy to zero degrees when planted in the ground. Its ground- hugging traps are fat with frilly hoods and rich color. Unlike other species, these plants allow rain water to collect in their tubby leaves.
Growing purpurea from seed is extremely rewarding because they grow very fast. The seedlings start out looking like other pitcher plant seedlings but then start to chunk up and begin to look like tiny purpurea and eventually grow into adults. A full clump of purpurea is truly magnificent sight.
Each packet contains approximately 25 seeds.
